Autism Awareness - Motion Graphic

Client

Young Teens & Adults

Aged 13-18

This project focused on highlighting the importance of autism awareness. The motion graphic provides an insight into what Autism or ASD actually is, using illustrations and kinetic typography to showcase what those effected experience and how to notice these signs. This was a highly personal project that felt especially important to me as my brother has Autism.

Task

“Autism Means Different, Not Less.”

Why Autism?

For this project I knew I wanted to focus on autism however I was worried if I would be able to communicate it in the right way. I was able to get help from my brother as he himself is autistic. A lot of my information came from things I he experienced and learned as he grew up as well as myself and my family. Other things I had to dive deeper and learn more about.

The main goal of this motion graphic was not to give statistics and frighten people, it was to show the good side of autism, something very rarely spoken about. How it is not something that should be thought of so negatively. Children do not deserve to feel like less than their peers, they should be celebrated and loved equally. It shocked me how little the good parts of autism are acknowledged.

Autism Awareness

My biggest goal for this Motion Graphic was to represent autism in an accurate, powerful way and I believe I achieved that. The design and overall approach seems appropriate for my target audience, it isn’t too serious and strict, or too bright and childish, there was a balance found when selecting the correct colours and style. My hope is that when young people watch this, they reflect on what they originally believed autism is. I hope they see the good, and welcome that in the future.
